George Cowburn Award

The George Cowburn “Esprit de Corps” Award is voted on by the members of the New York Federation of Contest Judges judging the Northeast Circuit Championships. The award goes to the guard that, in the judges’ opinion best exemplifies the characteristics of the late George Cowburn - dedication to the activity, willingness to assist other members of the circuit, good sportsmanship, integrity and honor.
George Cowburn was the Vice President of the Federation at the time of his death in a plane crash over two years ago. His passing has left a void in the lives of all who knew him. This award, named in his honor, is one of the most prestigious honors a guard in Upstate New York can ever hope to receive.
